Your profile

Role

This role is based in London, and reports to the Finance Director. This role is a 9 month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave, with a possibility to extend further.

Description

We are looking for a Finance Manager - Reporting  to lead our financial reporting operations during an exciting period of growth. You are genuinely motivated by delivering accurate, insightful financial information that drives business decisions and understand how your work enables the organisation to scale sustainably. Technical excellence is important, but so is your attitude—we need someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. A qualified accountant with strong FRS102 knowledge is preferred, but what matters most is that you embody the points below. You'll be supported to grow and develop—whether through your day-to-day role, working closely with the Finance Director, or being part of a vibrant, forward-thinking company. This role will report directly to the Finance Director during the Financial Controller's maternity leave, stepping up to assume broader responsibilities.

Role specifics

  • As a Finance Manager - Reporting, you will have cross-functional responsibilities to deliver comprehensive financial reporting, team leadership, and operational finance oversight.

  • Month End & Financial Reporting - You will lead the month-end close process for the group, ensuring all entities close accurately and within tight deadlines. Prepare monthly management accounts and produce detailed variance analysis that tells the story behind the numbers. Present insights to the Finance Director that highlight key drivers of performance and support strategic decision-making. Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations for all key accounts monthly.

  • Technical Accounting Excellence - Serve as the technical accounting resource for the Finance team. Research and apply FRS102 standards to complex transactions, handle technical queries from the business, and ensure proper documentation of accounting policies. Support the production of year-end financial statements and liaise with external tax and accounting service providers to maintain compliance.

  • Audit Leadership - Joint lead on audit processes. Coordinate with external auditors, manage audit timetables, ensure timely provision of information, and minimize audit queries through excellent preparation. Build strong working relationships with audit partners.

  • Accounts Payable Oversight - Ensure the accounts payable function runs smoothly with timely payment processing, strong vendor relationships, and robust controls. Maintain efficient payment cycles while ensuring proper authorization and documentation.

  • Debt Management - Oversee the debt management function to ensure strong cash collection. Monitor aged debt, manage collection processes, and implement strategies to reduce debtor days. Protect cash flow while maintaining positive member relationships.

  • Payment Authorisations & Controls - Act as 2nd authorizer for HSBC payment releases and  payment releases on Spendesk. Own Spendesk oversight and controls, ensuring proper use, approval workflows, and policy compliance across the organization.

  • Capital Projects Support - Support the Finance Director on capital expenditure analysis, approval processes, and financing implications. Assist with financial modeling for new projects and development opportunities. Contribute to cash flow forecasting, particularly for capital projects. Maintain the fixed asset register and oversee capital expenditure accounting.

  • Property Costs & Compliance - Support rent, rates, and service charge processes and analysis. Ensure regulatory obligations (VAT, PAYE, Companies House) are met in coordination with payroll and tax teams. Maintain awareness of multi-jurisdiction requirements across the UK and Germany.

  • Budget & Forecast Process - Support annual budget process and quarterly re-forecasting cycles with detailed financial modeling. Team Leadership - Line manages the Finance Assistant. Provide coaching, development, and performance management. Foster a high-performance culture focused on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Ensure your direct report feels supported and has a clear development pathway.

  • Process Improvement & Systems - Identify opportunities to streamline month-end processes and implement efficiency gains through automation. Support the development of financial reporting tools, including dashboards. Drive productivity by adopting best practices and maintaining strong internal controls.

Must haves…

  • Technically Strong - You are a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience with 2-4 years PQE. You have deep FRS102 knowledge and can navigate complex accounting standards with confidence. You've supported month-end processes and managed audit relationships successfully.

  • Ownership Mindset - You take full accountability for your work and the work of your team. No task is beneath you—you're as comfortable preparing a technical accounting memo as you are investigating a payment query. When something needs doing, you make it happen.

  • Natural Leader - People want to work with you and for you. You bring out the best in your team through coaching, support, and setting high standards. You lead by example and create an environment where people can thrive and develop. You have experience managing and developing junior team members.

  • Detail-Oriented - You have exceptional attention to detail and pride yourself on accuracy. You catch errors before they become problems and maintain rigorous controls. Your balance sheet reconciliations are immaculate.

  • Commercial Thinker - You don't just produce numbers—you understand what drives business performance. You can translate financial data into insights that help the business make better decisions. You think like a business partner, not just an accountant.

  • Great Communicator - You can explain complex financial concepts in simple terms to non-finance stakeholders. You write clear, concise variance commentary. You're confident presenting to senior leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Adaptable - You thrive in a fast-paced, growing business where priorities can shift. You manage multiple deadlines without dropping balls. You're comfortable with ambiguity and can operate effectively without perfect information.

  • Systems & Data Savvy - You're highly proficient in Excel / Google sheets and accounting systems. You're excited about tools like AI and see opportunities to use technology to work smarter. You embrace automation and continuous improvement

Nice to haves…

  • Real Estate or Tech Experience - You've worked in property, real estate, or growth-stage tech companies and understand the unique challenges and opportunities these sectors present.

  • Multi-Entity Group Knowledge - You have experience working across multiple entities and jurisdictions, German tax and accounting requirements, would be a plus.

  • Capital Projects Exposure - You've supported major capital projects or development finance and understand the cash flow and accounting complexities involved.
